Authorities have identified the teenager fatally shot near Saint Louis University’s campus earlier this week as 16-year-old Darrell Price, whose promising young life was cut short in an act of senseless violence.
According to police, the initial shooting occurred around 7 p.m. Monday evening in the parking lot of a building near 3822 Laclede Avenue, which houses both a Papa John’s and a Jimmy John’s restaurant. Another individual was also injured during the gunfire.

In the days following his death, family members, classmates, and community members gathered to celebrate Darrell’s memory during a balloon release and candlelight vigil. The event, meant to symbolize healing and unity, quickly descended into chaos when a drive-by shooting erupted, leaving four people wounded and one person dead.
Police said the second incident took place around 7 p.m. Wednesday on the 5900 block of Wells Avenue in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood — roughly five miles from the site of the first tragedy.
The twin shootings have left Darrell’s loved ones devastated and the community shaken, as another memorial for a slain teenager has been marred by more bloodshed.
Investigators continue to search for suspects in both shootings as residents call for peace and renewed efforts to curb youth violence in St. Louis.
