A heartbreaking river rescue operation in East Texas has left two teenagers dead and a father still missing, devastating the local community and leaving two families in mourning. The tragic incident occurred Sunday evening, November 9, on the Trinity River in Polk County, when a kayaking outing turned to disaster.
Authorities have released the identities of the victims involved in Sunday’s tragic kayaking accident on the Trinity River, near the Lake Livingston Dam, that claimed the lives of three people. Family members have confirmed that 53-year-old William Harvey Poff and his 15-year-old son, Jake William Poff, were among those killed when their kayak overturned in the fast-moving current. Eric Robert Lynn, a close family friend, also tragically lost his life in the incident.

The accident occurred Sunday afternoon near the Browder’s boat ramp area, where rough river conditions caused the kayak to capsize. Investigators report that William Poff entered the water to rescue his son and Lynn, but none of the three resurfaced. Search crews recovered the bodies of both teens later that evening, but the search for William Poff continued into Tuesday, as authorities worked to account for all victims.
