The Slidell community is reeling from the heartbreaking loss of 5-year-old Carson Lawson, who was tragically struck and killed early Tuesday morning in what was meant to be a routine school day. The accident occurred around 7:00 a.m. in the 300 block of Spartan Loop, within the Spartan Trace subdivision. Carson, who had been eagerly waiting for his school bus in his driveway, was struck by a 2016 GMC Yukon that was being backed out by his grandmother, 55-year-old Kristen Anders. According to Slidell Police, the vehicle hit Carson with fatal force before anyone could react.

Initial investigations revealed that Kristen Anders showed signs of impairment at the scene. After further evaluation, authorities confirmed she was under the influence of alcohol and central nervous system depressants at the time of the accident. Anders was taken into custody and later charged with vehicular homicide, marking the profound seriousness of the situation. While cooperating with investigators, she remained visibly distraught over the incident.
Slidell Police Chief Daniel Seuzeneau expressed the emotional weight of the tragedy, calling it one of the most heartbreaking situations local officers have ever faced. “This is any parent’s worst nightmare,” he said. Chief Seuzeneau personally reached out to Carson’s mother, offering words of support and comfort during an indescribably painful time. “There’s nothing I can say to make this situation better,” he added, “but we can pray for peace and healing for this family.”
