At approximately 12:20 a.m., Oregon State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 238, near milepost 8 in Josephine County. The incident involved a westbound Subaru Impreza that failed to navigate a curve, left the roadway, struck a power pole, and rolled several times before bursting into flames.
Inside the vehicle was 36-year-old Jacob Dean Mix, a well-known and cherished member of the Grants Pass community. Tragically, Jacob was unable to escape the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 21-year-old Alexander Ray Yager, also from Grants Pass, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Initial investigations by the Oregon State Police suggest that speed and impairment were significant factors in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing. The roadway was closed for approximately eight hours to allow for scene reconstruction and investigation.
