Tragedy Strikes Golden Police Department: Officer Killed, Another Injured in Suspected DUI Crash
A devastating incident unfolded in Golden, Colorado, on Tuesday evening, claiming the life of a 33-year-old police officer and leaving a female colleague injured. The officers were investigating an accident on Highway 58 near Washington Avenue when a suspected DUI driver struck them, trapping them under the vehicle.
The male officer, a military veteran and Black Hawk helicopter pilot, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity has not been released at his wife’s request. The injured female officer was hospitalized, and her condition remains unknown.
Golden Police Chief Joe Harvey remembered the fallen officer as an “amazing human being” with a distinguished military career. “He will be deeply missed by his family, including his wife, sister, and parents, as well as his 71 colleagues at the Golden Police Department.”
The suspected DUI driver is in custody. The incident occurred amidst snowy conditions, with Golden receiving over 8 inches of snow from a storm that began Monday night. Highway 58 was closed for an extended period during the investigation.
