A Tulsa man who tried to protect a donut shop employee from harassment has died, one week after being stabbed during the confrontation.

Police say the incident occurred on September 19, 2025, around 11 a.m. outside Brown’s Donut Shop near 1300 N. Yale. Witnesses reported that 40-year-old Brandon Poor was behaving erratically, waving a firearm and setting small fires in the area.
When Poor allegedly began harassing an employee outside the shop, 39-year-old Zacchariah Watchman stepped in to help. During the altercation, Watchman was stabbed and rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.
Authorities arrested Poor shortly after the attack. He was originally booked on charges of Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Property Destruction.
On the night of September 26, around 9:30 p.m., Watchman succumbed to his injuries. Police confirmed that Poor’s charges will now be upgraded to murder.
The Tulsa Police Department continues to investigate the case.
