Tuskegee authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of local resident Quandaries Pollard on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 9:54 a.m. in the 2900 block of Pruitt Court, according to Police Chief Gary Hicks.

When officers and fire medics arrived at the scene, they found Pollard suffering from a severe gunshot wound. Despite immediate emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead on-site. Authorities confirmed that his injuries were too critical to allow transport to a hospital.
Within two hours of the shooting, investigators identified and arrested 31-year-old Kareem Washington, also of Tuskegee. Police say Washington and Pollard were acquainted, though the nature of their relationship and the events leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
Washington has been charged with murder, second-degree possession of marijuana, and tampering with evidence, indicating that authorities believe he not only played a role in Pollard’s death but also attempted to interfere with the investigation.
Chief Hicks stated that detectives are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting, noting that it is unclear whether it stemmed from a personal dispute, conflict, or other circumstances.
The tragic incident has left the Tuskegee community shaken, as residents mourn Pollard’s death while processing the arrest of Washington, both of whom were locally known. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that eyewitness accounts could help reconstruct a clearer timeline of events.
The investigation remains active, and officials have pledged to provide updates as new information emerges. For now, Washington remains in custody at the Pike County Detention Facility as legal proceedings continue.
