A devastating crash along Interstate 10 west of Beaumont claimed the lives of two individuals Monday morning, bringing eastbound traffic to a standstill for several hours. The collision occurred around 5:20 a.m. near the 841-mile marker at Boyt Road, close to the Goodyear plant, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Authorities confirmed that a 34-year-old Beaumont man and his passenger, Alie Katt, were killed in the violent accident. The male driver’s identity has not yet been released as officials notify his immediate family.

Crash Details
The pair were traveling eastbound in a 2015 Dodge Charger when the driver attempted a lane change that proved unsafe. The vehicle struck a water-filled barrier before colliding with a concrete barrier at high speed. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Precinct Four Justice of the Peace Justin Chesson.
Traffic Impact
The crash caused major disruptions for morning commuters. All eastbound lanes of I-10 were closed for several hours while investigators and cleanup crews worked on the scene. Traffic backups extended past Fannett and Highway 365, prompting authorities to advise drivers to seek alternate routes until the highway reopened safely.
Investigation Underway
Sgt. Shana Clark of the Texas DPS confirmed both occupants died as a result of the crash. Troopers continue to investigate, reviewing physical evidence and examining factors that may have contributed to the collision, including early-morning visibility and roadway conditions.
Authorities stressed that while barriers are designed to minimize crash impacts, collisions at high speeds can still be deadly. Drivers are urged to remain vigilant, avoid sudden maneuvers, and adjust speeds according to road conditions—especially during early morning hours on busy highways like I-10.
