ELGIN, Texas — A late-night multi-vehicle collision on Saturday left two dead and several others hospitalized, authorities reported. The crash occurred at the intersection of US Highway 290 North and Saratoga Farms Boulevard.
The Elgin Police Department said officers were dispatched at approximately 11:55 p.m. on August 30, 2025. An officer fueling his vehicle at a nearby QT gas station quickly responded, helping to extract multiple patients from the wrecked vehicles. Two of the vehicles involved reportedly caught fire.
Among those killed was 66-year-old Robbie Carter of McDade, Texas, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported several injured victims to Austin-area hospitals by ambulance and helicopter. Tragically, 13-year-old Yareli Padierna of Elgin later succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Four other patients remain hospitalized.
The Elgin Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team, Crime Scene Unit, and command staff are investigating the crash. Authorities have not yet determined the cause and are examining all contributing factors.
