A scene of chaos erupted Tuesday evening at the Walmart on 2500 W. 95th St. in Evergreen Park after reports of an active shooter prompted shoppers to flee in panic. Authorities confirmed that two people were injured in the incident — one sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while another suffered a graze to the foot.
According to initial reports, the suspect, described as a light-skinned Black male with short dreadlocks, initially fled the scene on foot. He was last seen wearing all-black clothing with a large Mario logo on his shirt before reportedly leaving in a Chevy Malibu. Law enforcement later confirmed that the suspect is now in custody.

The Evergreen Park Police Department, in coordination with Chicago Police and a multi-jurisdictional EMS Level 1 response, quickly secured the area. Witnesses described a scene of panic inside the store, noting that one victim was shot in the frozen foods section, while the other was struck outside in the parking lot.
Authorities later cleared the Walmart, confirming there were no further threats. The two victims were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
