Two Killed in Early Morning Crash on Route 17 in Nichols

Nichols, NY – New York State Police have confirmed the identities of two victims who tragically lost their lives in a two-vehicle collision on State Route 17 early Monday morning.

Authorities identified the victims as 45-year-old Frank J. Dempaire of Reading, Pennsylvania, and 45-year-old Elize Carlos of Newark, New Jersey.

Investigators reported that both were traveling eastbound in a passenger car around 4:30 a.m. when their vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer in the town of Nichols. Emergency responders pronounced both victims dead at the scene.

The crash resulted in the temporary closure of Route 17 for several hours while crews conducted investigations and cleared the roadway.

New York State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The community mourns the loss of Dempaire and Carlos in this tragic incident.
