Federal authorities have charged two men in connection with a brazen ATM theft in Metro Detroit that ended with thousands of dollars in cash being spent at Somerset Mall. The incident, which unfolded in late September, involved a stolen truck, chains, and a high-end shopping spree that ultimately led investigators to the suspects.
According to a federal complaint, Daryl Edwards and Braylon Marshall, both residents of Houston, were captured on surveillance footage participating in an elaborate ATM robbery outside a local bank. Investigators say the group used a stolen Ford F-350 pickup to rip open the machine, pulling off the front panel with hooks and heavy chains.

Authorities estimate the group escaped with approximately $138,000 in cash, while the damaged ATM sustained nearly $80,000 in destruction. Two additional suspects, also believed to be involved, have not yet been publicly identified.
How the Heist Unfolded
Investigators report the incident began in the early hours of September 27. Edwards allegedly acted as a lookout from inside a rented Nissan Rogue while Marshall and another accomplice operated the stolen F-350, which officials believe was taken from a Roseville dealership.
After forcing the ATM open, the suspects abandoned the pickup and returned to a nearby hotel. By midday, the group had moved on to Troy—where surveillance video, license plate readers, and cellphone data tracked Edwards and the others arriving at Somerset Mall around 11 a.m.
Once inside the upscale shopping center, the group reportedly spent large amounts of cash at several retailers, including luxury stores. Surveillance images later recovered by investigators showed the men walking out with multiple shopping bags, all purchased with money allegedly taken from the ATM.
Though the mall is not specifically named in the charging documents, an image included in the complaint shows the suspects in front of the Neiman Marcus entrance—Michigan’s only location of the store, located inside Somerset.
A Familiar Face to Law Enforcement
Edwards, now facing federal charges, is no stranger to the criminal justice system. Records indicate he has previous felony convictions in Texas for theft (2006) and possession of controlled substances (2009, 2020), as well as a 2015 conviction in Arizona for transporting and selling narcotics.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to identify the remaining two suspects connected to the ATM heist and subsequent spending spree.
