Burton, Beaufort County, is reeling following the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Ty Haskell Jenkins IV of St. Helena Island. The tragic incident occurred just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the Independence Mobile Home Park on 60 Shanklin Road, near the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

According to authorities, deputies responding to reports of gunfire discovered Jenkins with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity.

Investigators have identified 21-year-old Tyre Joe Atkins, also from St. Helena Island, as the suspect in the shooting. Atkins is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities describe him as 5-foot-10, weighing 170 pounds, and last seen driving a 2015 blue Jeep Cherokee with South Carolina license plate 4467TA. A murder warrant has been issued for his arrest.
