Authorities in El Paso County, Colorado, have identified the man found dead earlier this week in a field near Eastonville and Hodgen Roads as 38-year-old Jeremy Campbell.
Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office launched a homicide investigation after discovering Campbell’s body on Monday, near the Woodlake Trailhead area in northern El Paso County.
The incident began hours earlier when law enforcement received a missing person report from a home in Cimarron Hills around 3:45 a.m. Monday. That report led investigators to a vehicle found on Spectrum Loop near the Ford Amphitheater in Colorado Springs. Further investigation eventually directed them to the rural area where Campbell’s body was located.
Authorities confirmed that 27-year-old Khayla Dawson has been arrested in connection with the killing. She faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and motor vehicle theft.
According to investigators, Campbell was working as an Uber driver at the time of the incident. Police believe Dawson was a passenger in his vehicle before allegedly attacking him and stealing his car.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case and is urging anyone with additional information to contact them at 719-390-5555.
Officials have not yet released further details about a possible motive, but they confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as the homicide investigation continues.
