DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire football program is heartbroken following the passing of former Wildcat Chris Jeannot, a 2012 graduate and one of the most respected and cherished members of the UNH Football family.
A standout offensive lineman during his playing days, Jeannot was remembered far more for the person he was than the position he played. Teammates, coaches, and staff described him as the ultimate teammate: selfless, uplifting, and relentlessly positive even on the toughest days.

“Chris had this rare ability to make everyone around him better, both on the field and off,” said one former UNH coach. “He’d be the first one in the weight room, the last one to leave practice, and somehow still find time to check in on a freshman who was struggling or crack a joke that lightened the mood for the whole team.”
Known for his infectious energy and quiet leadership, Jeannot mentored countless younger players, many of whom credit him with helping them navigate the challenges of college football and life. Long after his playing career ended, he remained a regular presence at UNH games and team events, staying connected with former teammates and offering guidance to the current roster.
“Chris never sought the spotlight, but everyone gravitated toward him,” a former teammate shared. “He was the kind of guy you wanted in your foxhole. Humble, tough, hilarious, and genuinely cared about people. Losing him leaves a hole that can’t be filled.”
The UNH Football program released a statement saying, “Chris Jeannot embodied everything it means to be a Wildcat. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and the standard of character he set for our program.”
