Tuscaloosa authorities are investigating the death of Rimon Garcia, a University of Alabama staff member, who was discovered Monday morning in the Pinehurst area.
According to officials, police and university officers responded around 9:00 a.m. to a residence on Pinehurst Drive after receiving a medical call. Garcia was found unresponsive while operating lawn equipment and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences requested the assistance of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit (VCU), which often handles cases where a death occurs without medical personnel present. Capt. Jack Kennedy noted there were no signs of foul play, adding that VCU involvement is routine under such circumstances.
Kennedy also said a statement was released due to public interest stemming from Garcia’s ties to the university. No further information has been made available as the investigation continues.
