SUPPORT THE FAMILY - GOD BLESS YOU

During his years at UW, Liam was a beloved member of the Husky Marching Band sousaphone section (2016–2020), where his humor, energy, and camaraderie made him a standout presence on and off the field. Friends and colleagues recall his ability to uplift those around him, both through his musicianship and his vibrant personality.

Liam’s dedication to music extended far beyond performance. He touched countless lives as an educator, teaching at McKenna Elementary, Lackamas Elementary in Yelm, Crownhill Elementary, and Mountain View Middle School in Bremerton. His students remember him as patient, encouraging, and inspiring, qualities that reflected his deep belief in the transformative power of music. He also worked with Kids in Concert, an after-school music and youth development program in Kitsap County, further amplifying his impact on young learners.

Outside of teaching, Liam’s artistry continued to thrive. He performed with the former Kraken Band, Red Alert, and brought his distinctive sound to the local psychedelic surf alt-rock band The Coozies, showcasing his versatility and love for collaboration.

Family, friends, and colleagues describe Liam as kind, generous, and full of life, someone whose presence brightened every room and whose music will continue to resonate long after his passing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 23rd, from 1–4 p.m. at the Kingston Village Green Community Center in Kingston, WA, where all are welcome to honor Liam’s extraordinary life and lasting legacy.

Liam Near will be remembered not only as a gifted musician and teacher but also as a source of joy, inspiration, and compassion for everyone fortunate enough to know him.
