Valmeyer, IL — The community of Valmeyer is mourning the loss of Nicholas D. Wittenbrink, 46, who tragically died in a single-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning, August 26, 2025.

Authorities said Wittenbrink was discovered near his overturned vehicle at the base of the levee on Fountain Road. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by deputies, EMS, and first responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Monroe County Coroner’s Office. Investigators confirmed that dense fog and road conditions played a role in the crash.
Wittenbrink, remembered for his warm personality and strong ties to the Valmeyer community, was known as a devoted family man and loyal friend who brought kindness and laughter to those around him. His untimely passing is being felt deeply by family, friends, and neighbors.
As the community grieves, loved ones are honoring his memory by cherishing the moments he shared and the lasting impact of his generosity and love.
