VAN BUREN, Maine — The Maine State Police (MSP) are investigating a heartbreaking incident that claimed the life of an 8-year-old girl in Van Buren on Wednesday afternoon.
According to authorities, the tragic accident occurred around 4:01 p.m. on August 27, 2025, near Kennedy Terrace on Main Street. Investigators report that a Van Buren Ambulance Service vehicle, traveling northbound on Main Street, struck the young girl as she attempted to cross the roadway.
The child, a local resident, sustained critical injuries from the collision. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by the ambulance crew and first responders at the scene, she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Officials confirmed that the ambulance was not responding to an emergency call at the time, and early reports indicate that speed is not believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
Emergency personnel from the Van Buren Fire Department, Presque Isle Police Department, and Soderberg Construction assisted at the scene as MSP worked to reconstruct the accident and interview witnesses.
