VERONA, N.J. – Residents of this close-knit Essex County town are mourning the death of John Vincent Auriemma, Jr., who passed away peacefully at his Verona home on Saturday, November 29, 2025. He was 57.
A lifelong North Jersey resident, John grew up in Belleville and moved to Verona with his family 19 years ago. Neighbors quickly came to know him as the friendly face who always stopped to chat, offered help without being asked, and could be counted on to keep an eye on the block.

At the center of John’s world were his wife and children. He rarely missed a game, recital, or school event, and he looked forward each year to family traditions: summer weeks at the Jersey Shore, weekend getaways to Atlantic City, and his annual starring role as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, complete with a booming “Ho ho ho” that delighted kids and adults alike.
“John had this quiet way of making everyone feel like they belonged,” said one longtime neighbor. “You’d leave a conversation with him feeling better than when it started.”
John Vincent Auriemma, Jr. is survived by his wife, children, parents, siblings, and a large extended family.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona. Words of Remembrance will begin at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Verona Rescue Squad, an organization John supported for years.
