Thane, India – The Indian film and television industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Achyut Potdar, who passed away on August 18, 2025, at the age of 91. He breathed his last at Jupiter Hospital in Thane, where he had been admitted due to health complications. The exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed. His final rites will be performed on August 19 in Thane.

Potdar’s passing marks the end of an era in cinema and television. Over his decades-long career, he became a familiar and beloved presence on screen, delivering memorable performances in acclaimed films such as 3 Idiots, Ardh Satya, Yeh Dillagi, and Aakrosh. He also left his mark on television with roles in popular series including Wagle Ki Duniya, Majha Hoshil Na, Mrs. Tendulkar, and Bharat Ki Khoj.

What made Potdar’s journey unique was his unconventional entry into the world of acting. Without formal training, he stepped into films at the age of 44. Before his acting career, he had a remarkable professional journey—graduating as a professor in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, before joining the Indian Army through the Emergency Commission. He retired with the rank of Captain in 1967 and went on to work for 25 years with the Indian Oil Corporation, where his passion for theatre and cultural activities eventually led him to acting.
His debut in Govind Nihalani’s Aakrosh (1980) paved the way for a second career that would see him become a respected character actor in both Hindi and Marathi entertainment. Known for his subtle yet impactful performances, Potdar’s body of work reflected dedication and artistry that resonated across generations.
