The Waco Police Department has confirmed the tragic death of 25-year-old Billy Joe Welch, who passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash earlier in the week.
According to authorities, the accident occurred around 5 p.m. Monday, October 6, near the intersection of W. Lakeshore Drive and Wood Lake Drive. When officers arrived, they found Welch critically injured after what investigators described as a single-vehicle motorcycle crash.

Emergency responders transported Welch to a nearby hospital, where doctors worked tirelessly to save his life. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Investigators with the Waco Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit are continuing to examine the circumstances leading up to the crash. Early findings indicate that no other vehicles were involved, and Welch was the only person on the motorcycle at the time of the accident.
The heartbreaking loss has shaken the Waco community, with friends and family remembering Billy Joe as a kindhearted and spirited young man whose love for life and adventure was unmatched.
