WESTBROOK — The Deck, a beloved seasonal fixture on the Westbrook waterfront, is closed tonight as staff and patrons grapple with the unexpected passing of longtime Head Chef Mike Dodge.
Dodge, who spent more than a decade behind the line at the Pilot’s Point Marina hotspot, died earlier this week. While the family has not released details surrounding his death, the loss has sent shockwaves through the close-knit restaurant community and the loyal customers who considered him family.

“Mike was the heartbeat of this place,” said general manager Sarah Callahan. “He didn’t just cook the food—he created the entire vibe. Every plate that left his kitchen had his personality on it: bold, warm, and full of love.”
Known for signature dishes that blended New England classics with his own creative twists, Dodge helped cement The Deck’s reputation as a must-visit summer destination. Regulars say no one could nail a lobster roll or blackened swordfish quite like he could.
But it was Dodge’s infectious laugh and relentless positivity that people say they’ll miss most.
