The city of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, is grieving after the sudden and heartbreaking death of Tanya Myers, 44, who was fatally struck by a bullet while traveling along Highway 39 on Friday night.

Tanya’s longtime friend, Andrea Morrice, who was driving the vehicle at the time, is now speaking publicly to honor her friend’s memory and to clear up what she says are misconceptions about the incident.
Driver Recalls the Devastating Moment
Andrea, still processing the trauma of the night, shared her account with The World-Spectator on Monday. She emphasized that contrary to online speculation, the bullet did not shatter a car window.
“I was the driver on Friday night,” Andrea said. “It wasn’t a loud crack like some have said — it felt like a bomb went off in my car. Suddenly, my friend was in pain. The bullet entered her back, and I didn’t know what had happened. There was no broken glass, so it definitely wasn’t a window.”
Andrea added that neither she nor Tanya had enemies and that the tragedy may have been an accident or a case of mistaken identity.
“Tanya was a natural healer who helped me through the last several years, but I’ve known her for nearly three decades. Our final day together was perfect — we laughed, told stories, bought gifts for our pets. She had a heart of gold and lived only to help and love. Nobody wanted to harm her. We may never know why this happened.”
Details of the Incident
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on Friday, September 12, as Andrea and Tanya drove a black Ford Explorer northwest of Weyburn, near the Richardson Pioneer and Viterra grain terminals. Tanya died at the scene.
The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. Insp. Ashley St. Germaine said officers have received many tips, thanks to social media and media coverage.
“We appreciate the public’s support,” St. Germaine noted. “The information being shared demonstrates how much people want to help.”
Police are urging anyone who was in the area — whether driving, hunting, or target shooting — to contact investigators. Dash cam, security, or doorbell footage from 7:45 to 8:30 p.m. on September 12 along Highway 39 into Weyburn or Highway 13 may be valuable.
