TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. — The Winterboro community is grieving the tragic loss of Kenny Simmons, a talented student-athlete whose life was cut short over the weekend. Simmons, a standout on both the football and track teams at Winterboro High School, left a lasting impression on classmates, teachers, and teammates alike.
On Monday, around two dozen seniors gathered outside Winterboro High School to honor Simmons’ memory. In a heartfelt tribute, they sang the school alma mater—a song typically reserved for celebratory moments—demonstrating the profound impact Kenny had on those around him. Senior Trenton Garrett, a teammate and close friend, organized the tribute. “Kenny had a way of making everyone smile. Even on tough days, he’d lift your spirits,” Garrett said.
Beyond his athletic abilities, Kenny was remembered for his kindness, infectious laughter, and the joy he brought to his peers and community. Teachers and classmates recalled his positive attitude, dedication, and ability to bring people together, making him a beloved figure both on and off the field.
Though the community grapples with grief, Winterboro residents are leaning on faith, unity, and shared memories to navigate this difficult time. Garrett encouraged prayers not only for Kenny’s family but also for classmates and the broader community, emphasizing the importance of keeping his memory alive.
Kenny Simmons’ legacy extends far beyond his athletic achievements. He will be remembered for his spirit, generosity, and the happiness he shared with everyone around him. His memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
May Kenny Simmons rest in peace, and may his family, friends, and Winterboro community find comfort in the treasured memories they hold close.
